The National Park Service says the eastern Foothills Parkway climbs roughly 1,000 feet along Green Mountain for 5.6 miles between Cosby and I-40 Exit 443, offering views of Cherokee National Forest, Cosby Valley and Raines Knob.
A Smokies parking tag is required when parking for more than 15 minutes. Road conditions and closures can change.

TDOT documentation confirms that SR-32/US-321 connects Newport to Cosby and continues toward Sevier County, providing access toward Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg. The National Park Service describes Highway Route 32 from Cosby toward the Tennessee–North Carolina state line as a more scenic approach to Cataloochee, but specifically says it is not recommended for RVs. Beyond the state line the route becomes gravel, and the Cataloochee approach includes narrow, winding road conditions.
This is not a casual shortcut. Check current NPS road conditions before considering it.
